The Clone Wars: Take 2

In April 1995, while lunching with reporters at San Francisco’s trendy LuLu restaurant, Power Computing CEO Steve Kahng was asked how his company, which had just released its first batch of Mac clones, planned to compete with Apple Computer. “We’re going to squeeze a nickel out of every dime,” he said, smiling.

Two and a half years—and three Apple CEOs—later, Steve Jobs took back that dime. In between were the clone wars, which ravaged both Apple’s reputation and its bottom line.

Leopard the 3D Dock and a Mac Mini PPC

Well, I've gotten Leopard installed on my Mac Mini PPC and over all I like it. With one major exception, the 3D Dock. Now don't get me wrong I love the eye candy but I've been seeing some strange video errors. When an application resizes from the dock the entire screen inverts, now I don't mean the colors change but rather the entire screen does a vertical 180. This only stays for a second but it's enough to tick someone off. None of the boards I have searched gave me an answer as to why this occurs, but alas I have found the culprit, that shiny new 3D dock.

Mac Gaming

With the switch to Intel macs, I am beginning to see a trend of game developers finally seeing the Mac as a potential platform. I've played World of Warcraft on the mac for awhile now, but I find myself picking up my PSP to play other games. EA Games is now pushing it's newer releases to the mac. EA co-founder Bing Gordon announced that beginning in July, the mammoth video and computer game publisher will bring six major game releases to the Mac, including the already-released Need for Speed Carbon, Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, and Battlefield 2142. Also coming are Macintosh versions of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Madden NFL ’08 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’08—the latter two are expected to be released simultaneously with their counterparts on other platforms.
